Gallery Folders | FeaturedComments I just thought of something while I was browsing your gallery. You ever notice in yaoi how semes never...show any emotion? The uke's all, "DIS MAH UKE FAYSH!" and the seme's all, ".....Meh." There's one or two works in this gallery I noticed where the seme actually looks like he's getting into the sex, but I've noticed throughout most of it,and the yaoi genre as a whole, that the seme almost always...just...looks disinterested, lmao.
I mean, look at Kazusa Takashima's work for example (figures I'd bring her up since I quoted her in my signature). I'll say Wild Rock. Ever notice how Emba's always got that bland, deadpan face? I mean, sure, he's dead sexy, but he never smiles. He smiles like...once. When he's playing with his nephew. And that's all I've seen him do other than, "....I am Emba. You my woman now. You stay in cave and cook meat." I just think it's weird! You know? Like...it's sex. You'd think the seme would enjoy it or at least act like it. Not every single seme in yaoidom can be that focused. "Oh, I only look like that, cause' I'm trying to concentrate. God forbid my uke comes before I do---" BULLSHIET! Every seme? With the rare exception to the rule? I dunno. I just thought it was weird. Thought I'd bring it up. *shrug*  Wops, sorry, I've just read this comment and I thought I needed to reply!
Honestly, when I started to draw yaoi, I was into that seme-pokerface and uke-moaner XD It's called stereotypes. They come from the Japanese market and that's the way most of yaoi mangas are displayed. I do not consider I draw that kind of characters anymore because I HATE that now. They're both men, they both have got cocks and they both can switch roles. And they both love sex unless it's non-con. I also hate the fact that uke is treated like a woman just because he likes to be fucked. Like if only seme was the "real" man. Disgusting and unrealistic, but that's the way yaoi market works. Why? Because I would say that over the 50% of yaoi mangas released are done for women. Teens or young women that probably won't know how a REAL gay relationship would work. Actually I've seen plenty of these young fujoshis that HATE switching pairings. They think it's not "normal". Uke should be girly, skinny and smaller than the seme, and seme should be manly, muscled and taller. And uke should moan and sweat, while seme should just move his hips and smile whole time. LOL nope. That's unrealistic and pretty discriminating, so I can understand how a big part of actual gay guys dislike yaoi. I laughed at your comment about Emba XDDDD That would be pretty accurate for prehistoric times LOL Oh, Japan and their stereotypes. XD Don't get me started on the American stereotype you see all over anime nowadays (not that anime in question is bad for that reason, it's just a common phenomenon).
I agree with you completely. When you think about it, it's almost sexist toward both men and women the way that most couples are portrayed in yaoi. And yet the women eat that shit up, so it sells. On the one hand, I can understand why. The market is probably just bored with heterosexual romances, so they buy yaoi to replace it, in which a man is playing the woman's stereotypical role. Actually, the number of gays in the community that actually like yaoi are few and far in between. But I find it odd that in my neck of the woods, they're actually pretty common. We live in the Bible Belt where we get discriminated against on a daily basis, so it's one thing to actually come out as a gay or a bisexual and another to come out as gay/bi AND a yaoi fan. It's like your quirks just keep building up. And you wonder how you ever lived in this part of the US for so long. XD That's what I think of when I think of Emba. He doesn't express much, let alone...talk much. Which makes him easy to parody. "You. Get out of way. Lion will eat your cross-dressing ass."  I find it interesting that I found your page on a whim, and then I realized you have yaoipress stuff...
